The Pacific Herring Spawn: A late winter/early spring natural phenomenon where herring congregate in shallow coastal waters of Vancouver Island to deposit their eggs, resulting in the spectacular characteristic milky turquoise-colored water. The spawn is a significant event, attracting a large variety of wildlife.
